This compendium addresses the advances in the treatment of gastrointestinal infections, covering etiologic agents, new diseases, and newly characterized pathophysiologic mechanisms of old diseases. The book is organized to permit readers to access information by: clincial presentation and by etiologic agent; and segregating information on normal and comprised hosts. Not included in the text is the many infections that primarily involve the liver, reasoning that that field may be considered as a separate subject. The book should be of interest to gastroenterologists and infectious disease specialists as well as internists, pediatricians, pathologists and surgeons.
